SEN continues Shanghai visit (with photos)
******************************************

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, continued his visit to Shanghai today (May 7) to learn more about environmental protection efforts and the development of new energy vehicles there.

In the morning, Mr Yau called on the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau and met the Director-General Mr Zhang Quan to exchange views on how environmental protection initiatives would be put in place in the two places.

He visited the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in the afternoon to see the latest developments in new energy vehicles in Shanghai and the deployment of these vehicles in the vicinity of the Expo Park of Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo).

Mr Yau said the Hong Kong Government was exploring co-operation with different electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers to encourage the supply of EVs for the Hong Kong market. He said he hoped that SAIC would further develop right-hand drive EVs and consider supplying these vehicles to Hong Kong. Mr Yau said the move could serve as a stepping stone to other right-hand drive EV markets.

Tomorrow (May 8), Mr Yau will visit the China Pavilion of Shanghai Expo and return to Hong Kong afterwards.
