SEN to visit Shanghai

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, will leave Hong Kong for Shanghai this afternoon (May 5) to attend a seminar entitled "Green Technologies, Planning and Opportunities" tomorrow (May 6) and share with participants the business opportunities arising from going green.

     Mr Yau will give a keynote speech titled "From environmental protection to business opportunities: the interaction and synergy of going green and the economy" during the seminar. President of the Hong Kong Environmental Industry Association Mr Daniel Cheng and Federation of Hong Kong Industries' Mr Peter Sun will respectively speak on the research into and application of green technologies.

     Also at the seminar, the Deputy Director-General of the Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Department of Guangdong Province, Mr Cai Yin, the Deputy Director of Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong, Mr Carlson Chan, and the Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Macao, Mr Cheong Sio Kei, will jointly share the study findings of "A quality living area in the Greater PRD region".

     Organised by the Environment Bureau, the seminar will be held at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai tomorrow morning.

     In the afternoon, Mr Yau will lead the guests attending seminar to the Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) Hong Kong Pavilion where they will visit an exhibition commissioned by the Environment Bureau, "Green living in Hong Kong". They will also visit Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition to try the interactive devices of "Smart CardĦESmart CityĦESmart Life".

     On Friday morning (May 7), Mr Yau will call on the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau and exchange views with its officials on issues relating to environmental protection. In the afternoon, he will visit the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation to learn more about the latest developments in new energy vehicles in Shanghai and the deployment of these vehicles in the vicinity of Expo Park.

     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong after visiting the China Pavilion of Shanghai Expo on Saturday (May 8).
