HA receives investigation report on scalded baby incident at Princess Margaret Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) today (April 29) received the "Investigation Report on Scalded Baby Incident at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH)" from the hospital.

     The HA Chief Executive, Mr Shane Solomon, said the Authority welcomes and accepts the recommendations of the panel and will ensure that the recommended measures are fully implemented in public hospitals to prevent the recurrence of a similar incident.  

     "At the same time, the Hospital Chief Executive of PMH has been asked to look into the need for appropriate disciplinary proceedings for the concerned nurse who did not follow the guidelines, leading to the injury of the baby," Mr Solomon said.

     "We feel deeply sorry to the parents of the baby who was scalded in the bath.  On behalf of the Authority, I would like to express once again our apology to the parents."

     Mr Solomon also thanked the members of the investigation panel for their efforts and valuable contributions in the early completion of the investigation report which has facilitated the timely implementation of improvement measures.
