Choy Kee Engineering Limited was fined $30,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Court today (April 28) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident on July 3 last year on a construction site in Tai Po where a worker drowned while engaged in wire mesh fence replacement work at a reservoir.
According to Section 6A(2)(a) of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the proprietor shall provide and maintain a system of work that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to the health of the person employed. Any proprietor who fails to do so is liable to a maximum fine of $500,000.
