Qingchuan county is one of the areas stricken by the May 12, 2008, Sichuan earthquake. To empower local residents to regain strength, perseverance and faith in life after the earthquake, Art for All invited a group of local artists and volunteers to visit Qingchuan county and carry out a series of art activities between 2008 and 2009.
From tomorrow (April 29) to May 10, the public can visit an exhibition entitled "Art Moves - Rekindling Hearts with Art and Love - In Commemoration of the Two Year Anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquake" at the Exhibition Gallery of Sha Tin Town Hall, to witness how the victims started a new life through art.
The exhibition is jointly organised by the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Art for All. The exhibition will showcase the results of art events organised in Qingchuan by Art for All. The exhibits include drawings, documentary videos and photos that were created by Qingchuan students, teachers, community workers and volunteers. Some of the works are the joint efforts of residents in Qingchuan and Hong Kong artists who joined the Qingchuan tour. The artworks reflect Qingchuan residentsˇ¦ feelings about the disaster and their vision of the future, expressing their courage, optimism, unity and confidence in facing adversity. The exhibition will also display works by artists who participated in the Qingchuan art facilitation tours.
During the exhibition, various workshops covering dance, theatre, music and visual arts will be held. The works created in these workshops will be taken to Qingchuan for sharing and will be used as resources for further creation. Art for All will also organise guided tours to introduce the exhibits and share the artists' experience of the Qingchuan tours with the audience.
Sha Tin Town Hall is located at 1 Yuen Wo Road, Sha Tin, New Territories. It is open from 10am to 8pm from April 29 to May 9, and from 10am to 2pm on May 10. Admission to the exhibition is free.
