Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 27) obtained four orders for payment of outstanding Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions at about $538,000 against four employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $17,000 on behalf of 33 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against four employers, DCDC (HK) Limited, N G A Company Limited, Law Tim Wing trading as Fu Wing Transport Co. and Binary Consultants Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $241,116.60, $147,404.18, $81,585 and $68,880, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 40, 11, four and three employees of the defendants respectively.

     Meanwhile, at the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant Siu Wai Lun trading as C. Chest Merchandise Co. formerly known as Christ Design & Co. did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $3,337.27, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, Land Partners Surveyors Limited and Strong Ease Limited trading as Yim Chun Restaurant, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $11,869.83 and $2,644.81, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930 each. The Tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $110, $145 and $145 as the costs in respect of the claims.
