Police will implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate a public procession to be held from Causeway Bay to Western District tomorrow (April 24).
The procession will start at about 2.30pm from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to Western Police Station in Western District.
During the procession, the following special traffic arrangements will be implemented from about 2.15pm when necessary until the conclusion of the event.
(A) Road closure
I. The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.15pm:
(a) Gloucester Road U-turn slip road between southbound and northbound Gloucester Road;
(b) Jardine's Bazaar;
(c) Tang Lung Street; and
(d) A section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.
II. The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.30pm:
(a) A section of southbound Gloucester Road between Victoria Park Road Flyover and Causeway Road if necessary;
(b) Sugar Street;
(c) Irving Street except for the Regal Hong Kong Hotel;
(d) A section of westbound Yee Wo Street between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
(e) A section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
(f) Kai Chiu Road;
(g) A section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
(h) A section of westbound Hennessy Road between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road; and
(i) The leftmost lane of westbound Hennessy Road west of Lee Garden Road, westbound Queensway, westbound Queen's Road Central, westbound Queen's Road West before its junction with Bonham Strand, the rightmost lane of westbound Queen's Road West after its junction with Bonham Strand and the rightmost lane of southbound Western Street will be intermittently closed.
(B) Traffic diversion
I. The following traffic diversions will be implemented from about 2.15pm until the crowd has dispersed and the road closure is lifted:
(a) Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road will be prohibited from turning right onto northbound Gloucester Road;
(b) Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be prohibited from turning left onto Jardine's Bazaar;
(c) Traffic along westbound Russell Street will be prohibited from turning right onto northbound Canal Road East and diverted to turn left onto southbound Canal Road East; and
(d) Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road will be prohibited from turning left onto Canal Road East.
II. The following traffic diversions will be implemented from about 2.30pm until the crowd has dispersed and the road closure is lifted:
(a) Traffic along southbound Victoria Park Road Flyover will be diverted to turn right onto Gloucester Road service road if necessary;
(b) Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road heading for Causeway Road will be diverted to southbound Tai Hang Road Flyover if necessary;
(c) Traffic along eastbound Great George Street will be diverted to turn left onto northbound Gloucester Road except traffic heading for southbound Tai Hang Flyover;
(d) Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street will be prohibited from turning left onto Sugar Street;
(e) Traffic along Irving Street will be diverted to turn right onto northbound Pennington Street;
(f) Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be diverted to turn right onto eastbound Yee Wo Street;
(g) Traffic along Yun Ping Road will be diverted to turn left onto Pak Sha Road or Lan Fong Road; and
(h) Traffic along westbound Causeway Road will be prohibited from turning right onto Irving Street except for Regal Hong Kong Hotel and must keep left onto westbound Leighton Road.
(C) Suspension of bus stops
All bus stops along southbound Gloucester Road, Irving Street, westbound Yee Wo Street, westbound Hennessy Road, westbound Queensway, westbound Queen's Road Central, westbound Queen's Road West before its junction with Bonham Strand, and the rightmost lane of westbound Queen's Road West will be intermittently suspended by phases from 2.30 pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal.
(D) Green minibus diversion
GMB Route 40 will be converted into a circular route and diverted via eastbound Leighton Road, Hysan Avenue, Hoi Ping Road, westbound Leighton Road and southbound Morrison Hill Road from about 2.15pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal.
(E) Suspension of Public Light Bus (PLB) Stand
The PLB stand at Sugar Street will be temporarily suspended from about 2.15pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal.
(F) Restriction on access to or exit from car parks
All car parks along westbound Hennessy Road, westbound Queensway, westbound Queen's Road Central, and westbound Queen's Road West may be closed at short notice if necessary. In addition, vehicles in car parks along the procession routes may not be permitted to leave or access the car parks during the road closure period until the roads are re-opened to traffic.
Members of the Public are advised to use public transport service and avoid driving to the affected areas.
Motorist should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of the Police at the scene.
