**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following update today (April 20) regarding an earlier announcement on Rotavirus cases in neonatal wards:

Two more newborn female infants (aged 30 days and 42 days) have presented with diarrhoea symptoms in the neonatal wards.  Appropriate tests were arranged for the infants.  One was positive to Rotavirus, while the remaining one is pending test results. All the babies concerned are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.

Admission to the cubicles concerned has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the wards is imposed.  Infection control measures of the wards concerned have been further stepped up.  All other infants in the wards are under close medical surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
