Hang Seng Bank Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition launched (with photo)

     The .Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2010・ was launched today (April 20). The theme of this year is .Combating Youth Drug Abuse and Cyber Crime・.

     The biennial competition, first introduced in 1975, is one of the major crime prevention programmes organised by the Police and has been sponsored by Hang Seng Bank since 1994. The competition has attracted about 600,000 participants over the years.  
 
     It aims to raise youngsters・ alertness to juvenile crimes and foster a police-community partnership in the fight against youth crime.

     Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, pointed out that the number of youngsters involving in narcotics offences saw an increase last year while computer-related crime was also on the rise.

     He hoped young people, through the competition, could learn more about the consequences of committing these crimes, which would encourage them to help Police fight crime.

     Also officiating at the ceremony, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, Mrs Margaret Leung, pledged full support for the anti-crime initiatives. She believed that the competition would help promote positive values among youngsters who are also tomorrow's leaders.

     The competition is open to students in the categories of Primary Group (Primary 4-6), Junior Group (Form 1-3), Senior Group (Form 4-7), Post Secondary Group, and young people from NGO (youth service) category (including youth uniformed groups recognised by Home Affairs Bureau).

     Contestants will go through three phases of evaluation comprising a combination of web game, quiz, report on newspaper article, essay writing, project presentation, aptitude test and interview.

     Winners will be awarded scholarships and have the opportunity to represent Hong Kong as fight crime ambassadors in an overseas exchange tour in August.

     Entry forms are available at Police Public Relations Branch, Police Community Relations Offices, Junior Police Call (JPC) clubs and District Offices, or can be downloaded from JPC Website (http://www.hkpjpc.org.hk). The deadline for applications is May 20.
