Hospital Authority appoints new Cluster Chief Executive (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) today (April 20) announced the appointment of Dr Joseph Lui Cho-ze as the Cluster Chief Executive (CCE) of Kowloon East Cluster (KEC) and Hospital Chief Executive (HCE) of United Christian Hospital (UCH).  Dr Lui will assume the new position on May 17, 2010.

     HA Chief Executive Mr Shane Solomon said, "We are delighted to interview many good candidates who demonstrated passion for public healthcare services. After careful deliberation, the selection board recommended the appointment of Dr Lui as the designate CCE of KEC and HCE of UCH. The HA Board approved the appointment yesterday."

     Dr Lui is a specialist in anaesthesiology and has been the Chief of Service of the Department of Anaesthesiology and   Operation Theatre in Caritas Medical Centre since 1996. In 2006, he was given the additional responsibility of overseeing the Anaesthesiology and Operation Theatre services in Princess Margaret Hospital, Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital. He has been the Kowloon West Cluster Co-ordinator of Quality and Safety since 2002 and the Deputy Hospital Chief Executive of Princess Margaret Hospital since 2008.

     Dr Lui also plays an active role in corporate projects. He has been the Chairman of the HA's Medication Safety Committee since 2006 and the Chairman of the Casemix Costing Subcommittee since 2009. Dr Lui has been instrumental in the change project to promote and cultivate the use of day surgery and same day admission in the realm of surgical care, with the aim of improving the quality of patient care.

     Mr Solomon wishes Dr Lui every success in taking up the new challenge.
