LegCo to continue debate on Appropriation Bill 2010

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (April 21) at 11am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. During the meeting, Members will continue the Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2010 and Government officials will speak on the Bill.
     
     If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will go to the Committee Stage, during which Hon Audrey Eu, Hon James To, Hon Lee Cheuk-yan, Hon Cyd Ho, Hon Lee Wing-tat and Hon Wong Kwok-hing will move 9 resolutions under Rule 69(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to amend the Bill.
     
     The resolutions, to be moved by Hon Audrey Eu, resolve that head 70 be reduced by $5,940,000 in respect of subhead 000; and head 144 be reduced by $281,666 in respect of subhead 000.

     The three resolutions, to be moved by Hon James To, resolve that head 122 be reduced separately by $44,920,000 and $14,798,400 in respect of subhead 000; and head 122 be reduced by $80,000,000 in respect of subhead 103.
     
     Hon Lee Cheuk-yan will move a resolution to reduce head 141 by $281,666 in respect of subhead 000.
    
     Hon Cyd Ho will move a resolution to reduce head 156 by $281,666 in respect of subhead 000.
     
     Hon Lee Wing-tat will move a resolution to reduce head 158 by $281,666 in respect of subhead 000.

     Hon Wong Kwok-hing will move a resolution to reduce head 163 by $147,000,000 in respect of subhead 000.
     
     After going through the Committee Stage, the Bill will be read the third time.
     
     In addition, the Deposit Protection Scheme (Amendment) Bill 2010 will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings.  Second Reading debate on the bill will be adjourned.
     
     On Members' motions, Hon Miriam Lau will move a motion under Rule 49E(2) of the Rules of Procedure to make the Council take note of Report No. 8/09-10 of the House Committee in relation to the Designation of Libraries Order 2010, which laid on the table of the Council on April 21, 2010.
      
     During the meeting, Members will also ask the Government 20 questions on various policy areas, all of which require written replies.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Legislative Council Chamber.
