Woman arrested for infanticide in Tsuen Wan

     Police arrested a 17-year-old woman suspected to be in connection with an infanticide case in Tsuen Wan this morning (April 16).

      About 6am, Police received a report that the body of a baby was found inside a black recycle bag in the rubbish bin at the junction of Sha Tsui Road and Ham Tin Street. The newborn baby boy, with an umbilical cord, was sent to Yan Chai Hospital where he was certified dead at 6.24am.

     Police conducted investigations at the scene and arrested a 17-year-old woman inside a flat on Sha Tsui Road. Initial investigations revealed that the woman was suspected to have abandoned the baby boy after she gave birth to him inside the toilet of the flat.

     A post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow (April 17) to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.

     The woman was sent to Yan Chai Hospital for medical treatment. She was arrested for infanticide and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigations by the District Crime Squad of Tsuen Wan District are underway.
