SEN visits Singapore (with photos)
**********************************

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (April 14) began his visit to Singapore to learn more about the latest green efforts to improve the environment there.

Mr Yau called on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Ms Zhang Xiaokang, in the morning and discussed issues of common concern.

He later visited a bio-methanisation plant of IUT Global Pte Ltd to see how energy is produced from organic waste. Mr Yau learned that the plant reduced food waste entering incineration plants in Singapore and said it was a green solution that was friendly to the environment.

He then attended a lunch hosted by the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Singapore's Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Amy Khor, to exchange views on environmental protection policies in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Mr Yau concluded his visit by visiting Mapletree Business City, which recently won a prestigious green building award. Touring the innovative features designed to reduce energy and water consumption, he noted that Hong Kong could draw from  Singapore's experiences to make its environment greener.

Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong in the evening.
