Cluster of parainfluenza virus patients in a mixed rehabilitation ward at Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (April 13):

     Since April 11, a total of three patients (two female and 1 male, aged from 22 to 44) and one staff member of a mixed rehabilitation ward of CPH have presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients. Results for two of the patients were positive for parainfluenza virus (PIV) type 3. All the patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition. The staff member has recovered.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures in the ward concerned have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
