The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on a male severely mentally handicapped ward at Siu Lam Hospital in which some patients had been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson had the following update today (April 13):
One more patient, aged 32, has presented with fever and cough symptoms. Appropriate tests were arranged and test results are pending. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up. Other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
