************************************************************

A model of the Hong Kong Pavilion built for Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) is on display at the Commissioner's Office of the China Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR during the Office's open days from now until April 16, 2010.

The theme of the open day is "Welcoming Expo". An exhibition with 50 display panels shows general information on Shanghai Expo. Apart from the Hong Kong Pavilion model, there is also a video featuring Hong Kong's activities at Shanghai Expo.  Through the exhibition, visitors can learn about the architectural features of the Hong Kong Pavilion and get a taste of what is planned for Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo.

Attending the opening ceremony of the open days today, Commissioner, HKSAR Expo Affairs office, Mr Patrick Chan, outlined Hong Kong's plans for Shanghai Expo and gave an update on Hong Kong's preparation work.

Mr Chan said: "Construction works for the Hong Kong Pavilion have been completed. We are gearing up for the trial runs to be arranged by the Expo organisers beginning on April 20, 2010."

The exhibition provides a platform to share the ideas behind Shanghai Expo with the Hong Kong public and to help enlighten Hong Kong's younger generation on the Expo.

The Commissioner's Office, located at 42 Kennedy Road, Hong Kong, Central, is open from today to April 16, from 10am to 6pm. Visits are free of charge and by group appointment. Please visit www.fmcoprc.gov.hk for details.

The Shanghai Expo will be held from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Hong Kong's participation covers four aspects: constructing and operating a stand-alone Hong Kong Pavilion; taking part in the Urban Best Practices Area; taking part in Expo Shanghai Online to provide netizens with a realistic, virtual experience of Hong Kong's presence; and organising events and activities before and during the Shanghai Expo period to promote Hong Kong's innovation and creativity in cultural and other fields.

Under the theme "Hong Kong - Potential Unlimited", the Hong Kong Pavilion has a sleek contemporary design to showcase the infinite imagination and creativity of Hong Kong and its people. The Pavilion's three exhibition levels will highlight different aspects of Hong Kong's connectivity and creativity.

The theme of Hong Kong's UBPA exhibition is "Smart Card ĦD Smart City ĦE Smart Life". The exhibition will showcase how Hong Kong's extensive use of smart card technology has improved the efficiency and quality of daily city life.
