SEN visits Macao (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (April 8) attended the 2010 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2010 MICEF) and visited environmental facilities in Macao.

     In the morning, Mr Yau led the Hong Kong Government delegation to take part in the opening ceremony of the Forum. They discussed and shared experiences with more than 200 representatives from different countries and the Mainland on the latest green technologies and solutions to address environmental problems.
    
     Mr Yau also exchanged views on environmental issues with the participants at a luncheon meeting afterwards.

     Later in the afternoon, he visited the Macao Incineration Plant at Taipa Pak On Industrial Zone which was expanded in 2008.  Apart from treating waste, the plant is capable of transforming the heat produced during combustion of waste to supply electricity through the public electricity network in Macao.

     He then called on the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Fernando Chui Sai On, to exchange views on environmental issues of mutual concern.

     He will return to Hong Kong after joining the Green Gala hosted by the Macao SAR Government in the evening.
