The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding a male ward for the severely mentally handicapped of Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) in which several patients had been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson made the following update today (April 1):
Two more patients (aged 41 and 46) and one female staff member in the ward presented with coughing symptoms. Appropriate tests were arranged and test results are pending. The patients are being treated under isolation, while the staff member is on sick leave. All are in stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up. Other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
