Police arrested a 17-year-old girl suspected to be connected to an infanticide case in Tuen Mun in the early hours today (April 1).
About 3.07am, Police received a report that the 17-year-old girl had wrapped a newborn baby boy in a towel and put it inside a handbag soon after she had given birth to him inside a flat in Shan King Estate, Tuen Mun. The girl then went to meet her boyfriend with the handbag in Yuen Long.
Police officers sped to the scene and located the girl and the baby boy. The baby was sent to Pok Hoi Hospital where he was certified dead at 3.35 am. Initial examination found that he was a newborn baby.

A post-mortem will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.
The girl was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment. She was arrested for infanticide and is still being detained for further enquiries.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Tuen Mun District are underway.
