Judicial Appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (March 31) announced the appointment of Mr Andrew Colin Macrae, SC as Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.  The appointment will take effect from April 12, 2010.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     Further judicial appointment will be announced in due course.

     Mr Andrew Colin Macrae, SC who now holds office as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, will cease to be a Recorder with effect from the same date.

     The biographical note of Mr Andrew Colin Macrae, SC is as follows:

     Mr Andrew Macrae, SC was born in 1956 in the United Kingdom.  After obtaining B.A. (Hons) from the Durham University in the United Kingdom in 1978, he was called to the Bar in England and Wales, in Hong Kong and in Brunei in 1979, 1983 and 2004 respectively.  He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 1999.  After serving in the then Attorney-General's Chambers from 1982 to 1983, he has been in private practice since 1983.  He served as a Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court from 2002 to 2003 and has been appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2006.
