A man who assaulted a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officer executing his duties was today (March 30) fined $2,000 in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts.
The FEHD officer was attacked in the course of issuing a fixed penalty ticket to the defendant after spotting him spitting at Bonham Strand West, Sheung Wan, on January 26.
The defendant was also fined $1,000 for spitting in a public place.
"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries legal consequences," an FEHD spokesman said.
"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties," he said.
