Senior Counsel Appointed

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Honourable Chief Justice Andrew Kwok-nang Li is pleased to announce today (March 30) the appointment of two Senior Counsel of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  They are:

     Mr Adrian John Bell
     Mr Selwyn Yu

     The appointments are made by the Chief Justice under section 31A of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance.

     The appointments will take effect from the date of the Instrument of Appointment, which will be executed on May 8, 2010, when the ceremonial proceedings will be held at 10am in Court No. 7 in the High Court.

     The biographical notes of the newly appointed Senior Counsel are as follows:

Mr Adrian John Bell

     Mr Adrian John Bell, aged 56, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Jurisprudence at the Oxford University.  He was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1976 and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1981.  He has a mixed field of practice in both civil and criminal cases.  

Mr Selwyn Yu

     Mr Selwyn Yu, aged 45, obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Wales and passed the Bar Finals of England and Wales in 1989.  He was admitted to the Middle Temple in the same year and was admitted to the Hong Kong Bar in 1990.  His practice is mainly in the criminal area.
