**********************************

Youngsters and Junior Police Call (JPC) members participated in a variety of sports and recreational activities under the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign today (March 27) to drive home anti-drug messages as the Easter holiday approaches.

Around 100 JPC members from Shamshuipo, Yau Tsim, Mongkok and Kowloon City Districts joined a friendly basketball match against the students of Christian Zheng Sheng College as players and cheering teams. The competition highlighted the participantsˇ¦ full support for the fight against drugs as well as the importance of good health.

More than 150 JPC members from Tai Po District took part in the ˇ§Anti-Drug & Fight Crime Orienteering Competitionˇ¨. With full esprit de corps, the contestants got through all the checkpoints quickly and gained a better understanding of the harmful effects of drug abuse after the game.

In addition, an anti-drug expedition and adventure training organised by Central District, and football tournaments by Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Wan Chai Districts, also promoted a sporting culture among the younger generation and demonstrated how positive energy could help keep them away from drugs.

Meanwhile, about 100 primary and secondary students from Wong Tai Sin District participated in the ˇ§Sympathy Card Design Competitionˇ¨. Sympathy cards carrying messages on a healthy campus and the harm done by drug abuse will be sent to the young inmates of drug abuse treatment centres to show the studentsˇ¦ support, care and encouragement.

Other anti-drug activities included a multi-media exhibition of a giant anti-drug finger painting, visits to the Drug InfoCentre, seminars and leaflet distribution.

A police spokesman said, ˇ§Police will continue to take enforcement action to combat youth drug abuse. With the Easter holiday drawing near, youngsters are reminded not to take drugs or engage in any illegal activities.

ˇ§We will also organise various educational and recreational programmes to encourage young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, in the hope that a drug-free culture can be fostered on school campuses and in the whole community.ˇ¨

Funded by the Beat Drugs Fund, the ˇ§JPC Anti-drug Dayˇ¨ campaign aims to reinforce territory-wide anti-drug education and publicity among youngsters and to raise public awareness of the problem of youth drug abuse.
