Rateable values of properties go online
***************************************

People can now check the rateable values of properties online through the Rating and Valuation Department's enhanced Property Information Online (PIO) service (www.rvdpi.gov.hk).

With the addition of the "Enquiry on Rateable Value" service today (March 25), people can find the rateable values of properties contained in the Valuation Lists and/or Government Rent Rolls for the latest three years of assessment through the bilingual search engine at PIO.

The upgrade reflects the department's continuous efforts in boosting PIO service, which has been offering convenient online searches of property information, including saleable area, age and permitted use of properties, since its launch in February last year.

"Previously people could only obtain rateable values in person or by post at a charge of $83 per record. With the introduction of the new service, people can get such information quickly and efficiently through the department's round-the-clock online service, and at a much reduced fee.

"It is expected that the total number of enquiries handled for all service items will exceed 280,000 property units a year. We will continue enriching the PIO services and boost the usage of this electronic platform," a spokesman for the department said.

Users can view plain copies of rateable values online or obtain the information by email, fax or downloading. For certified true copies, users may get the information by post or in person at the department at 15/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon.

A plain copy of rateable value is charged at $9 per record for each year of assessment, and a certified true copy of rateable value is $160 per record. Enquiries on rateable values of the same property contained in the Valuation List and in the Government Rent Roll for the same year of assessment are charged separately.

Payment can be made online using credit cards or PPS. Frequent users can apply for subscriber accounts for more convenient use of the system. Service charge for a subscriber account is $25 a month for the main Login ID and $10 for each supplementary Login ID if needed.

For enquiries, call 2150 8836 or email to pio_enquiries@rvd.gov.hk.
