Fatal traffic accident in Tai Po

     Police investigate a traffic accident happened in Tai Po in the early hours today (March 23) in which a 52-year-old man died.

     Shortly before1am, a 52-year-old man was driving a taxi along Kwong Fuk Road towards Tai Po Town Centre. When arriving the junction with Nam Wan Road, the taxi hit a bus, driven by a 52-year-old man, which was travelling along Nam Wan Road towards Tai Po Centre. The bus then crashed into the railings on the roadside, and the taxi collided with two other taxis and a public light bus, which were stopped before the junction on Nam Wan Road towards Tai Po Market Railway Station.

The 52-year-old taxi driver sustained serious head injuries and send to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state, where he was certified dead at 5.50pm this afternoon. Also, seven men and a woman, aged between 23 and 59, including the bus driver, also sustained injuries and were sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for medical treatments.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team, Traffic New Territories North, are underway.
