The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 23) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $99,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, namely Chan Kin Keung trading as Sun Fortune Electronic Game Centre, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $4,279.34, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other six defendants, namely Cheung Wai Ping, Wong Kong Yiu Nigel trading as N K Wong & Co., Fung Shing Hoi trading as Siu Sun Loong, Beauty Yoga Limited, King Champion Investments Limited trading as Fame Cuisine and Chan Kwong Sun formerly trading as Kwong Fat Cargo Service Co., did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,210.54, $19,790.5, $11,746.95, $11,613.06, $4,045.46 and $2,068.71, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $129, $199, $159, $129, $90, $205 and $70 as the costs in respect of the claims.
