The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 11) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $40,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.
The defendants - Sarol Beauty Limited, City Lord Limited, A-Ha Entertainment Company Limited, Sing Ting (HK) Investment Co Limited and Fidelity Concept Development Limited trading as Royal Plaza Restaurant - did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $18,106.2, $11,395.24, $8,295, $3,200 and $1,417.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $165, $89, $80, $135 and $120.
