FEHD invites applications for 218 Fixed Pitch Hawker Licences
*****************************************************

     The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) is releasing 218 on-street fixed hawker pitches from today (March 10) to March 30 and issuing new licences.

     After consulting the District Councils, the 218 vacant on-street fixed pitches in the territory are available for allocation. They are located in Southern District (five pitches), Central and Western District (10), Mong Kok District (11), Sham Shui Po District (110) and Kowloon City District (82).  Of these pitches, 166 are for sale of non-food-related dry goods, while the remaining 52 are for sale of food-related dry and wet goods, and non-food-related wet goods.

     Applicants should meet the following requirements:
1. aged 18 or above;
2. have Hong Kong permanent resident status;
3. not hold a valid hawker licence at present;
4. have not entered into any market stall tenancy agreement with the FEHD which is still in force;
5. have not joined the Voluntary Surrender Schemes for Fixed-Pitch (Cooked Food or Light Refreshment) Hawker Licences or Itinerant Hawker Licences; and
6. none of the applicant's parents, spouse or children should currently hold any valid hawker licence.

     Application forms can be downloaded from the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk) or obtained in person at the department's Hawkers and Markets Section of the Hong Kong/Kowloon Region and all district environmental hygiene offices.

     Completed application forms can be returned by fax, by mail or in person.  Applicants can browse the department's website or call the FEHD hotline (2392 5157) for enquiries.

     The department will notify applicants in writing to acknowledge receipt and provide an application number for applicants to check their application status online.

     At the request of the Legislative Council and hawker trade associations, priority will be given to eligible applicants who are existing registered assistants and have registered with the FEHD for five years or more (as at January 31, 2010) to apply for 70% of the vacant fixed pitches.

     An open computer random number allocation process to determine the selection priority of pitches for eligible applicants will be held in late April. Results will be uploaded onto the FEHD's website for information. Successful applicants will be invited in writing in batches to an interview to complete the pitch selection procedures.
