Man fined for contravening holiday flat licensing condition
***********************************************************

A man was fined $2,400 at Eastern Magistrates' Court today (March 9) for contravening the Hotel & Guesthouse Accommodation Ordinance.

In January this year, officers from the Home Affairs Department's Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) inspected a holiday flat in Mui Wo after receiving a noise complaint. OLA officers requested the licensee to go to the premises to help deal with the complaint but to no avail.

One of the licensing conditions states that the licensee should have continuous and personal supervision of the operation, keeping, management and other controls on the guesthouse. Hence, the male licensee was charged with contravening section 21(3)(a) of the Hotel & Guesthouse Accommodation Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against operators who contravened the Ordinance.
