Government receives 2009 Starting Salaries Survey report from Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service
*********************************************************

A spokesperson of the Civil Service Bureau said that the Administration received the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service's Report No. 46 on the Civil Service Starting Salaries Survey 2009 today (March 9).

"The Administration will now conduct a one-month consultation on the findings and recommendations of the Standing Commission with the parties concerned including departmental management and the staff sides before deciding on the way forward," the spokesperson continued.

"The Administration's views will be submitted to the Chief Executive-in-Council for decision. The endorsement of the Establishment Subcommittee and the approval of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council will be sought in the event of any change to the entry pay of any civil service basic rank," the spokesperson added.

Pursuant to the decision of the Chief Executive-in-Council in May 2007, a starting salaries survey should be conducted on a triennial basis. The last starting salaries survey was conducted using April 1, 2006, as the reference date and revisions to the starting salaries of affected civil service basic ranks following the application of the results of that survey took effect from August 1, 2007. The 2009 Starting Salaries Survey uses April 1, 2009, as the reference date.
