North District launching healthy city campaign to promote health messages

The following is issued on behalf of the North District Council:

     The North District Council is launching a healthy city campaign to call on the public to live a healthy lifestyle and together improve environmental hygiene in the community.

     Organised by the Working Group on North District Healthy City under North District Council, the campaign will be launched at a ceremony to be held at Luen Wo Hui Community Hall, 9 Wo Mun Street, Fanling, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm tomorrow (February 27). People are welcome to participate in the event which will also feature a health talk and free body check services.

     Officiating guests at the ceremony include the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Gabriel Leung; District Officer (North), Mr Donald Chen; and the Chairman of North District Council, Mr So Sai-chi. The guests will sign a Healthy City Charter to set out the objectives of the campaign.

     "The North District Healthy City Campaign" aims to establish common goals with the residents in improving the community environment to achieve a long-term objective of "healthy living for all" in the district.

     To enhance public understanding on diabetic limb, Founding President of the Hong Kong Society for Diabetic Limb Care, Dr Ip Wing-yuk, and healthcare professionals from the Society will give a health talk and explain the causes, preventive measures and methods of treatment of the disease. An artiste will also share his experience in fighting the disease with the participants.

     The event will feature stage performances including rope skipping and exercise demonstration. Free body check-ups such as tests on diabetic limb and blood glucose, as well as health advices from Chinese medical practitioners, will also be offered on-site.
