Financial results for 10 months ended January 31, 2010
******************************************************

The Government announced today (February 26) its financial results for the 10 months ended January 31, 2010.

There was a surplus of $49.1 billion in the month of January, thereby bringing a net surplus of $47.9 billion up to end of January, 2010. Expenditure for the period amounted to $227.8 billion and revenue $275.7 billion.

A government spokesman said that the surplus in January was mainly due to the receipt of land premium, salaries tax and profits tax. Taking into account the projected revenue and expenditure towards the year-end, the revised estimate for the 2009-10 financial year, as announced in the Budget Speech on February 24, is a surplus of $13.8 billion.

The fiscal reserves stood at $542.2 billion as at January 31, 2010.

More detailed figures are shown in Tables 1 and 2.
