Renowned Canadian pianist to perform with local children's orchestra

     Canadian pianist Angela Cheng will perform with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra in "Melodious Piano Moments Concert" in April.

     Under the baton of Dr Yip Wai-hong, Cheng will play Saint-Saens' "Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor". Prof Gabriel Leung and Law Po-kwan will also conduct the orchestra in Prokofiev's "Symphony No. 1 in D, 'Classical'" and Wagner's "Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg".

     Consistently praised for her brilliant technique and superb musicianship, Angela Cheng has performed with the Alabama Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Colorado Symphony, Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Syracuse Symphony, Utah Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic.

     Cheng was a gold medallist in the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, as well as the first Canadian to win the prestigious Montreal International Piano Competition. Other award includes the Medal of Excellence for outstanding interpretations of Mozart from the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

     "Melodious Piano Moments Concert" by the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra is one of the programmes in the "Family Fiesta" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The concerts will be held at 8pm on Saturday, April 10, at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, and 3pm on Sunday, April 11, at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.

     Tickets priced from $80 to $160 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking and "Family Fiesta Series" schemes. Please refer to the programme leaflet for details.
