Basic Law Lyric Writing Contest finals tomorrow
***********************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

Thirteen teams will tomorrow (February 26) compete in the final round of the Basic Law Lyric Writing Contest jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB).

The contest has three divisions: Primary School, Secondary School and Open. The 13 teams selected for the final will compete for the winner and the first and second runners-up in each division.

Since 2004, the CPCE and HAB have been organising territory-wide events to promote the Basic Law. To mark the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law this year, the CPCE has organised a lyric writing contest to promote the Basic Law in a livelier manner.

The contest is co-organised with the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, Education Bureau and Department of Justice.

After a kick-off ceremony last November, three workshops have been organised, in which Prof Benny Tai of the University of Hong Kong shared his views on the Basic Law and lyric writer Mr Thomas Chow and some artistes shared useful hints on lyric writing with the participants.

The finals-cum-award presentation of the lyric writing contest will be held at 6.45pm tomorrow at the Y Theatre of Youth Square, Chai Wan. The Convenor of the CPCE's Basic Law Promotion Working Group, Mr Poon Chun-yuen, will be the officiating guest.

Entry tickets will be distributed outside Youth Square from 2pm to 6.45pm tomorrow. They are also available at the Home Affairs Departmentˇ¦s Public Enquiry Service Centres in the 18 districts.

Details of the contest are available at (www.basiclawcontest10.hk).
