Tenders invited for bus-bus interchanges on Tuen Mun Road
*********************************************************

     The Highways Department today (February 19) invited tenders for bus-bus interchanges on Tuen Mun Road (Contract No HY/2008/12) to provide a convenient interchange facility for passengers to switch amongst bus routes operating via Castle Peak Road and Tuen Mun Road from or to Northwest New Territories.

     The project will provide two bus-bus interchanges, one on Kowloon-bound side and the other on Tuen Mun-bound side of Tuen Mun Road.  This arrangement will not only provide the existing passengers with more choices of bus services at the interchanges, but also greatly enhance the overall efficiency of the bus network in the Northwest New Territories.

     Under the invitation to tender gazetted today, the works mainly comprise:

(i) the construction of a bus-bus interchange on Tuen Mun Road Kowloon-bound near Siu Lam Interchange;

(ii) the construction of a bus-bus interchange on Tuen Mun Road Tuen Mun-bound near Tai Lam Kok roundabout;

(iii) the widening of Brothers' Bridge;

(iv) the construction of a link bridge with two lifts; and

(v) associated civil works including road reconstruction, provision of shelters, drainage, landscaping, traffic aids and street lighting, slope works, waterworks, and provisioning the civil works for traffic control surveillance.

     The works are expected to begin in April this year and be completed in October 2012.

     The Major Works Project Management Office of the Highways Department has appointed AECOM Asia Company Limited to design and supervise the construction works. Interested contractors can obtain the forms of the tender and other particulars from AECOM Asia Company Limited on 12th Floor, Grand Central Plaza, Tower 2, 138 Sha Tin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong.

     Tender submissions should be placed in the Government Secretariat Tender Box located at the lift lobby on the lower ground floor of the Central Government Offices (East Wing), 20 Lower Albert Road, Hong Kong.  Submission of tenders will be closed at 12noon on April 9, 2010 (Friday).
