A critical case of human swine influenza patient at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) today (February 14) made the following announcement regarding a newly confirmed critical human swine influenza case:

     A 24-year-old man with past good health developed flu symptoms and was admitted to the isolation ward via Accident & Emergency Department of QEH on February 12. His condition deteriorated and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on the same day and required ventilation support. Positive result of human swine influenza was confirmed on February 13. He was given Tamiflu and antibiotics. The patient is now in critical condition. The hospital will continue to closely monitor her condition.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
