Sponsored by the Tung Koon District General Association and Tung Chun Soy Sauce and Canned Food Co., Ltd, co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm next Monday (February 15).
A total of 23,888 firing shells will be discharged in the display from three barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of nine scenes.
Highlights of the fireworks display include a gold ingot-shaped display and Chinese character "ji" symbolising good fortune in Scene Two. Scene Seven features the characters "EXPO" and "2010" as well as colourful sparkling fireworks celebrating World Expo 2010 Shanghai China. Smiley and crossette chrysanthemum fireworks will appear in the sky in Scene Eight wishing all the best to the home country. Intensifying with rapid and rhythmic fireworks, the display reaches the climax in the last scene, wishing good fortune in the year of tiger.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.
To enjoy the fireworks to the full, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.
People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
