Versatile Japanese visual artist and musician Takagi Masakatsu will be in Hong Kong next month (March) for two concerts called "ULBU".
There used to be a vast continent near Indonesia called "Sundaland", which connected islands in Asia. It sank at the end of the glacial epoch. Some of the people who lived there moved north to China, Korea and Japan, while some of them went south to the islands of Pacific Ocean including Polynesia. The people scattered and took with them myths and tales. When the fragments joined together, an extensive map of their home country can be drawn, and the land of innocence - the "ULBU" – emerged...
Collaborating with other Japanese musicians and local music group "Kim Tak Building", Masakatsu will try to touch on that old stream and bring it forward. Embraced by his painting-like video visuals and music, the long-lost human connection can eventually be found.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, Takagi Masakatsu is a visual artist and musician whose work knows no aesthetic borders. He collects inspiration from his travels, and visually interprets the personal response to the environment to create synchronised images to his music. He places a unique humanity in his works.
Masakatsu has produced music videos and music for TV commercials and films, and had live performances and video installations at art spaces and festivals around the world. In 2006, he was named by "Res" magazine "one of 10 emerging artists who would influence the worlds of film, video, design, music and media art in the upcoming years and beyond".
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "ULBU, Takagi Masakatsu Hong Kong Concert" will be held at 8pm on March 26 and 27 (Friday and Saturday) at the Multi-Media Theatre, HKICC LSK School of Creativity.
Tickets priced at $180 (free seating) are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
