************************************************************

Junior Police Call (JPC) school clubs and students joined to reinforce anti-drug messages in schools through the creative design of classroom decoration board, screen saver and web page in the "JPC School Clubs Beat-Drugs Creativity Workshop".

The workshop was a school-based project under the auspices of Police Public Relations Branch. Adopting the theme of "Healthy schools and sunny students beat drugs together", the activity aimed to enhance students' awareness of the adverse impacts of drugs, and promote close co-operation between schools and students in fighting drug abuse and building a healthy campus.

Following the completion of the workshop, more than 130 primary and secondary school clubs submitted their outstanding work for a competition. The prize presentation ceremony was held today (February 9) at Youth Square, Chai Wan.

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang; Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing; Chairman of Action Committee Against Narcotics, Professor Daniel Shek; and Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong, officiated at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang stressed that the Police played an important role in tackling the problem of youth drug abuse. Besides strengthening enforcement actions and intelligence gathering to combat the supply of drugs, the Police had been stepping up the publicity of messages of beat drug, fight crime and healthy living among the youth through JPC school clubs network and the clubsˇ¦ activities.

While appreciating the joint efforts of the schools, parents, students and JPC school clubs in combating drug abuse, Mr Tang pointed out the support of local principalsˇ¦ associations was also crucial to furthering anti-drug education. By adopting their suggestion and organising the creativity workshop, it was hoped that anti-drug messages could be disseminated to all contestants and their peers through multimedia and other means.

The champions of the primary and secondary schools classroom decoration board category were Po Leung Kuk Chan Yat Primary School and The Church of Christ in China Kwei Wah Shan College respectively. The champions of the primary and secondary schools screen saver category went to Shan Tsui Public School and Buddhist Ho Nam Kam College respectively. Only secondary schools contested in the web page category and it was won by Our Lady of the Rosary College. All winners received their trophies from the officiating guests at the ceremony.

An exhibition of the winning designs at Y Square was also launched today. Starting from tomorrow, the designs would be on display at Central Library in Causeway Bay till February 23, and at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre in Admiralty in April.
