Year-end cleaning programme in Tsuen Wan (with photos)
******************************************************

With the Chinese New Year approaching and members of the public doing their year-end clean-up, the Tsuen Wan District Council and Tsuen Wan District Office have launched a year-end cleaning programme to improve district hygiene and enhance residents' hygiene awareness.

Chairman of Tsuen Wan District Council, Mr Chau How-chen, and District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Mr Cheung Doi-ching, attended a promotional event to publicise the campaign today (February 6).

After a ceremony, officiating guests and volunteers of community organisations distributed cleaning packs and festive gifts to residents to appeal for their support in maintaining personal hygiene and household cleanliness.

A series of cleaning activities will be held during the two-month long programme which began last month. Cleaning workers have been hired to clean the flats of elderly people at Shek Wai Kok Estate, Cheung Shan Estate and Clague Garden Estate, and to clean the public areas of private buildings without management bodies. Refuse collection points are also open for residents to discard large household items.

Meanwhile, the organisers will arrange to clean rural black spots in Sham Tseng and Ha Fa Shan, and work with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) to strengthen anti-mosquito measures and cleaning services in areas such as wet markets, cooked food centres, hawker bazaars, streets and back alleys in the district.

The programme is organised by the Tsuen Wan District Council and Tsuen Wan District Office, and co-organised by the FEHD, Fire Services Department, Tsuen Wan Rural Committee and Tsuen Wan Rual Area Committee.

Also attending today's event were the Chairman of Tsuen Wan Rural Committee, Mr Chung Wai-ping; member of Tsuen Wan District Council, Mr Chan Wai-ming; Chairman of Tsuen Wan Rural Area Committee, Mr Leung Wing-yi; District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Tsuen Wan), Mr Cheng Wai-kit; and Division Commander (New Territories South) of the Fire Services Department (FSD), Mr Chung Wing-kwong.
