Guidance Note for sound broadcasting licence applications gazetted

The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:

     Following the commencement of the Telecommunications (Amendment) Ordinance 2010 on January 29, 2010, the Broadcasting Authority (BA) promulgated the "Guidance Note for Those Interested in Applying for Licences to Establish and Maintain in Hong Kong a Broadcasting Service under Part IIIA of the Telecommunications Ordinance (Cap.106)" pursuant to section 13CA of the amended Telecommunications Ordinance (Cap. 106).  The Guidance Note took effect by notice in the Gazette today (February 5) and is available on the BA's website at (www.hkba.hk).

     The purpose of the Guidance Note is to provide guidelines to corporations which intend to apply for sound broadcasting licences by setting out the factors which the BA will take into consideration in assessing the applications and making recommendations to the Chief Executive in Council under section 13C(1) of the Telecommunications Ordinance for decisions.  These factors include the pre-requisites and criteria for grant of sound broadcasting licences laid down in sections 13B(2) and 13C(4) of the Telecommunications Ordinance.
