A critical case of human swine influenza patient at Queen Mary Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) made the following announcement regarding a newly confirmed critical human swine influenza case:

     A 20-month-old baby girl developed flu symptoms and was admitted to the paediatric ward via Accident & Emergency Department of QMH on January 28. Positive result of human swine influenza was confirmed on  January 29. She was given Tamiflu and antibiotics. The condition of the patient improved and was discharged on February 1.

     The baby girl developed shortness of breath and attended the Accident and Emergency Department of QMH today (February 3). She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and required ventilation support. The patient is now in critical condition. The hospital will continue to closely monitor her condition.
