Police to showcase its work at Careers Expo

     The multi-faceted aspects of Police work will be showcased at the upcoming Education and Careers Expo from February 4 (Thursday) to 7 (Sunday) featuring the Force's values of professionalism, caring and integrity.

     There will be a mini range where officers from Weapons Training Division will demonstrate the use of Police equipment.

     Police officers from eight formations, including Police Dog Unit, Airport Security Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Emergency Unit, Police Tactical Unit, Crime Prevention Bureau and Traffic Formation, will brief visitors on their areas of work and introduce some of their equipment at different sessions.

     Details of the demonstrations are as follows:

February 4 (Thursday):
morning session - Police Dog Unit
afternoon session - Airport Security Unit

February 5 (Friday):
morning session - Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau
afternoon session - Traffic (New Territories South)

February 6 (Saturday):
morning session - Narcotics Bureau
afternoon session - Emergency Unit (Hong Kong Island)

February 7 (Sunday):
morning session - Crime Prevention Bureau
afternoon session - Police Tactical Unit (Hong Kong Island)

     Officers from the Police Recruitment Division will process applications for Police constable and inspector on site which will include initial screening and making arrangements for written and physical tests. The Auxiliary Police officers will also be present to handle recruitment-related enquiries and receive applications.

     Members of the public are welcome to visit the Police booth at the Expo, which will be held in Hall 1C-E of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10.30am to 7pm on February 4; 10am to 7pm on February 5 and 6; and from 10am to 6pm on February 7. Admission is free.

     To tie in with this year's Careers Expo, the Police Recruitment Division has set up an 'Application Express' campaign starting from January 25. Members of the public can apply to join the Force at the 13/F Arsenal House, Police Headquarters, 1 Arsenal Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong on or before February 7. Applicants should bring along their proof of academic qualifications (original and duplicate).

     The recruitment targets for the financial year 2009/10 are 156 Probationary Inspectors (PIs) and 904 Recruit Police Constables (RPCs). As at February 1, we have recruited 127 PIs and 780 RPCs. The remaining 29 PIs and 124 RPCs will join the basic training courses in March 2010 respectively. For the financial year 2010/11, the Force's recruitment targets will be 150 PIs and 1 082 RPCs.
