SWD renders support to families affected by building collapse

     As at mid-night last night (January 29), the Social Welfare Department (SWD) has reached 98 people from 44 households affected by the building collapse in Ma Tau Wai Road, providing those in need with emergency support and welfare services.

     "Over 10 social workers and clinical psychologists from SWD and non-governmental organisations were deployed to the scene and the two temporary shelters - Holy Carpenter Church Community Centre and Henry G Leong Yaumatei Community Centre ¡V to provide immediate counseling service and follow up the welfare needs of the residents, in particular the families of the deceased," a spokesman for the department said.

     "Our medical social workers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital also rendered support to the injured and their family members," he added.

     The Emergency Relief Support Unit of SWD has distributed food and daily necessities to the affected residents to address their emergency needs. With the support of Lok Sin Tong, the department will hand over $5,000 as emergency relief fund to each of the affected and needy households registered with the Government this morning (January 30).

     The spokesman said that the department would continue to attend to the welfare needs of the affected families.
