Secretary for Justice visits Kwun Tong (with photos)

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, visited Kwun Tong District this afternoon (January 29) to get first-hand updates on its development. He also met local residents to learn about their daily life and needs for community services.

     Accompanied by Kwun Tong District Officer, Mr Au Hing Yuen, Mr Wong first visited the Po Leung Kuk Lau Chan Siu Po District Elderly Community Centre in Lam Tin.  The centre provides support services for the elderly to live a healthy life and engages local citizens to build a caring and harmonious community for the elderly.

     Mr Wong was briefed on the centre's wide range of facilities and services.  These include a health corner where the elderly can have self-help body checks; interest groups and programmes that foster self-learning, self-management and self-discipline skills of the elderly.  Mr Wong was impressed by the lively senior citizens at the centre and wished them a happy Chinese New Year.  

     Following this was a visit to Yau Lai Estate in Yau Tong, a modern estate equipped with environmental-friendly provisions.  Mr Wong called on a three-member family with new immigrants from the Mainland.  He had a lively conversation with the family.

     The third leg of the visit was the Kwun Tong Promenade, a showcase of the improved amenities in the District where residents can enjoy a panoramic view of the harbour.

     Before his departure, Mr Wong met members of the Kwun Tong District Council and the District Fight Crime Committee to understand more about their views on local issues.
