A total of 163 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 137 summonses were issued to motorists and pedestrians who violated traffic regulations during an operation by Traffic Kowloon East yesterday (January 28).
The "Kowloon East Regional Traffic Day" was conducted between 7am and 11pm yesterday and 201 officers from Traffic Kowloon East, District Traffic Teams of Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping and Kwun Tong were deployed to enforce regulations at traffic accident blacksites and the potential traffic accident locations in Kowloon East Region.
Another 136 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and other parking offences.
A total of 225 pedestrians were verbally warned for jaywalking and other minor traffic offences.
Pamphlets and leaflets on road safety message were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that there were 1995 traffic accidents with persons injured in Kowloon East Region from January to December in 2009.
