***************************************************

More than 120 vacancies in the recycling and environmental industry were offered at a joint job fair today (January 22) organised by the Environmental Protection Department for EcoPark tenants.

The job fair was held in Tuen Mun Cultural Plaza with local residents the main recruitment target. More than a thousand people visited the fair today.

"The fair provides more than 120 vacancies offered by the EcoPark tenants and the management company," a spokesman of the Environmental Protection Department said.

"They cover a wide range of jobs including production assistants, laboratory assistants, technicians, store keepers, clerks, security guards and cleaners. More than 90% of them are full-time jobs."

In addition to on-the-spot registration, job-seekers had the opportunity for a selection interview on-the-spot for some of the vacancies.

The fair was held from 11am to 5pm. Over 400 application forms were received and about 200 interviews conducted on-the-spot.

The 20-hectare EcoPark is located in Area 38, Tuen Mun.  It provides long-term land at affordable costs for the recycling and environmental industry.

All the six lots in Phase I have been allocated for recycling of various local materials ranging from waste metal, used cooking oil, waste electrical and electronic equipment to waste plastics. Two of the lots in Phase 2 are being developed into government-funded recyclable-material processing centres. It is expected that a number of waste recycling operations will be commissioned in the first quarter of this year.
