Final performance of Schools Creative Music Showcase 2009/10
************************************************************

Members of the public are invited to the final performance of the Schools Creative Music Showcase 2009/10, which will be held next Wednesday (January 27) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall where 16 outstanding school teams will stage creative performances and compete for various awards.

The Schools Creative Music Showcase is co-organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, and sponsored by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It aims to promote music making and stimulate students' creativity so that they will be able to express themselves through creative music making together with various multi-media art forms.

Arts education can help students develop to the full in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics through engaging them in creating, thinking, exploring and self-learning. The annual Schools Creative Music Showcase is an initiative to promote arts education.

In the final performance, each primary school team will select one of the three designated "Sound Projects" of this year, namely "Creative Carnival", "Music Scrabble" and "Save the Old Banyan Tree" and interpret the selected project in a performance for not more than five minutes.

The secondary school teams will present their original music with movements, mime or dance performances within seven minutes. This year all the creative projects have distinctive themes. Most of them attempt to reflect real-life problems.

The 16 creative projects were selected in a preliminary selection in early December 2009. The primary and secondary school teams participating in the final performance are as follows:

* Fukien Secondary School Affiliated School
* PLK Tin Ka Ping Primary School
