Some 100 representatives of Hong Kong enterprises operating on the Mainland attended a seminar organised by the Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today (January 22) to learn more about brand building strategies.

Speaking at the seminar, the Director of the GDETO, Mr Rex Chang, said brand building would help enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.

He said: "Many Hong Kong enterprises operating on the Mainland were adversely affected in the global economic downturn last year.

"Facing such challenges, it is important for the business sector to enhance their competitiveness by upgrading the quality of their products, reducing reliance on the external market and increasing profit margins.  Brand building is one of the ways to achieve this."

The seminar on brand building was jointly organised by the GDETO and the China Enterprises Economic Research Study Centre. Representatives of the Economic and Information Technology Commission of Guangdong Province were invited to brief the audience on Guangdong Province's support measures for brand building, while representatives of Hong Kong enterprises were also invited to speak at the seminar on the importance of brand building and to share their experience and exchange views with the participants.

The GDETO organises events for Hong Kong enterprises regularly and invites experts to address, and share experiences and exchange views on, issues of common concern and the latest developments in relevant Mainland policies and regulations.
