Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company that had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Wan Chai was today (January 19) fined $2,200 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Eastern Magistrates' Court heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected the club in Jaffe Road, Wan Chai, in August last year. OLA officers found that the layout of the clubhouse deviated from that shown on the registered drawing with extra tables and chairs. Condition 3 of the CoC was contravened. The company, holder of the CoC, was charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
